Heather Bray

Heather Bray

Heather Bray is Cornish, of Cornish ancestry and belongs to a family with a lifetime interest in art, sharing a deep love of the way of life still to be found in the little villages, both beside the sea and in the beautiful countryside of her native land.

Heather’s creative gift is based on balancing dark and light tones in her compositions, contrapuntal and interacting, contrasting subtly with each other. A self-taught artist, her sensitive images are executed in myriad tones of delicate greys and soft colour, each resonating with its neighbour, like notes in a musical composition. She is painting a feeling, an essence of place, a location to rest, relax and wander around in.

Her studio is perched high above the Cornish shoreline and the seagull’s eye view it affords is often reflected in her paintings, many of which appear to be painted from a height.

Heather is well respected by fellow artists of considerable stature, and she has an acknowledged eye for excellence.

An artist who strives for clarity, form, and, above all, simplicity in her work, she is an intuitive painter, working, ”Almost without thinking.” She has a strong sense of design and an obvious joy in the act of painting. Her work, while remaining uniquely her own, places her firmly in the St Ives tradition, and is in numerous private collections in Britain and farther afield.
