The Smurfs (1980s)


The Smurfs were created by and first introduced as a series of illustrated comic strips by the Belgian cartoonist Pierre Culliford (also known as Peyo) in 1958. Culliford's initial comic first appeared in the Belgian magazine Spirou and was later adapted into a popular children's television series by by Hanna Barbera which was hugely popular during the 1980s.
