Agnes Miller Parker SWE ARE (British, 1895-1980) |
 |
 |
Agnes Miller Parker was born in Irvine, Ayrshire, Scotland; she studied
at Glasgow School of Art. She was one of the four engravers who worked
at the Gregynog Press in the early 1930s: her husband William McCance,
Gertrude Hermes and Blair Hughes-Stanton were the others. She was essentially
a book illustrator, and the list of her illustrated books ranges from
works for the Gregynog Press to the Limited Editions Club of New York
for which she illustrated Thomas Hardy's Far from the Madding Crowd
in 1958. Her wood engravings are distinctive with careful and delicate
cross-hatching and stippling.
