Tim Mara (British, 1948-1997)

Tim Mara was a highly respected British printmaker who died tragically in 1997 just as he was entering the most productive stage of his career. His bold, beautifully crafted prints attest to Mara's technical skill and many reflect his interest in contemporary media, especially TV and film. Much of his earlier work draws on '70s Pop Art and often depicts vibrant interiors. In 1990 Tim Mara was appointed Course Director and Professor at the Royal College of Art. The Mara years saw an outstanding expansion of quality and range of work including the development of new media such as digital imaging. He profoundly influenced current British printmakers both through his art and his teaching.
